Meet your tour guide

Laurence ’Lol’ Bodini has loved birdwatching for as long as he can remember, a passion that has taken him across the globe, from Asia to Latin America. Having first visited the Camargue as a teenager, he returned on holiday in 2013, fell in love with its wild landscapes and remarkable birdlife, and has been coming back regularly ever since. This passion led him to create Glareola Bird Tours, offering relaxed, small-group experiences for birdwatchers and photographers alike, with a focus on sharing the region’s unique beauty in a friendly, personal, and affordable way. Lol’s mother, Hilary moved to the region in 2018 and is part of the team, helping to ensure every trip is welcoming and memorable.

What you can expect to see on our tours and day trips

Spring (April–May)
A wonderful variety of breeding birds, including black-winged stilts, collared pratincoles, purple, squacco and night herons, glossy ibis, gull-billed and whiskered terns, slender-billed gulls, purple swamphens, bee-eaters and European rollers — with new arrivals and activity everywhere you look.

Autumn (September–October)
Many summer breeding species remain, joined by the spectacle of migration. Expect a rich mix of waders, terns, birds of prey and more, as countless birds pass through on their journey back to Africa.

Winter (February–March)
A magical time to visit, with flocks of cranes and elegant, dancing flamingos. We also explore the nearby Alpilles, including Les Baux-de-Provence, in search of Eagle Owl, Blue Rock Thrush and, with a little luck, the stunning Wallcreeper.

“Lol’s humble yet expert insight into the birds of the Camargue, combined with a flexible approach, made for a truly enjoyable and relaxing experience.”
